1988 Cape Dory 28 Flybridge sedan with single Inboard Gas Power...
PER MARE proudly displays her legacy as an absolutely classic Ed Monk designed "Pocket Trawler" with dual helm stations and accommodations for up to four adults. Introduced in 1985 and lasting a decade in production, the Cape Dory 28 is a graceful Downeast Style Cruiser whose lobster boat heritage can readily be seen in her salty, workboat profile.
Cape Dory's quality construction and handsome appearance made the CD 28 a popular boat throughout her 10-year production run and over 220 hulls were put into service during that time period. She combines the comfort and simple elegance of a classic interior with a spacious cockpit, flybridge and wide, surefooted decks. The generous use of teak and the excellent fit and finish below decks make for the yacht appearance not found in most of the boats of this variety.
The Cape Dory 28 was built on an easy riding semi-displacement hull with a moderate 10-foot beam, rounded bilges and a fully protected prop. PER MARE features a "full keel" and molded in skeg for exceptional directional stability plus adding full protection to the rudder and prop. The hull is comfortable at rest as well as streaming through a steep chop and when the weather threatens she has the speed to head for shore or the seaworthiness to ride it out. The standard 270-hp Chrysler V-8 cruises the boat at 12 knots and gets up to a top speed of approximately 18 knots. Service access to the engine is excellent.
PER MARE has a single stateroom layout with V-berths forward a good-sized galley to starboard and roomy and bright, enclosed head with shower to port. The wheelhouse has an L-shaped settee to port with a folding table. The side windows, center windshield panel and aft door open providing good ventilation when necessary. The helm provides excellent visibility and is equipped with updated electronics and a comfortable helm chair that converts to a leaning post. There is ample storage for all the gear and extras you'll need.
The Cape Dory 28 serves as the quintessential couple’s cruiser or family day boat and with her 10-foot beam, is capable of much more in terms of comfort either anchored or under way than one would expect from a "28-foot lobster boat". If you are in the market for an impeccably kept “pocket cruiser” for the canal systems or even the Great Circle Loop or for a vessel that can proudly serve as a safe, comfortable commuter to your island retreat, then PER MARE must be on your shortlist of potential choices.
